Avero's Recipe Box
Avero's Recipe Box, within Food Cost management, holds all of your menu item and bulk recipes. Avero uses the recipes you tie to POS codes to determine a Theoretical Cost of Goods Sold and inform our depletion calculation. We allow you to create batch recipes that you can nest within your menu items as well. This article will discuss the following topics:
- Building Recipes
- Creating Batch Recipes
- Creating Menu Item Recipes
- Editing a Recipe
- Using Recipe Tags
- Add POS Code to Existing Recipe
- Deleting a Recipe
- Printing or Exporting a Recipe
Building Recipes
Building out all your recipes can be a big task and we want to help you prioritize the items you sell the most. At the top of the recipe box, Avero will display POS Items that are not yet associated with a recipe. Keep the following in mind when viewing this information:
- These items are broken down by Food, Beverage, and Other.
- Items are displayed within three boxes, food, beverage, and other
- Items are sorted by the items that have the highest sales in the last 7 days.
Creating Batch Recipes
Before you start working on your menu items, you will want to make all your batch recipes. By doing so, you can add the ingredients from your batch recipes, when you build out your menu items.
To create your batch recipes, follow these guidelines:
- Go to Recipes and then to, Recipe Box
- Click on the + to add a new Recipe
- Name the Recipe
- To add ingredients:
- Type what you need in the Ingredient 1 space and hit enter.
- Or, click the magnifying glass to search for that product. We will return a list of products that match the search term entered. Click on the blue + next to the ingredient you need to add.
- Enter a quantity and a unit for that ingredient.
- Please Note: If you don't see the unit of measure that you are looking for, make sure that you have the conversion configured for that product in the product list page.
- Click Add Another Ingredient link and add all of the ingredients needed
- Fill in the Yield and Portion amounts. The yield reflects the total amount this recipe will create. The portion reflects how the recipe breaks down or the units you use of this in another recipe.
- Do you need to inventory this recipe? If so, you can scroll down and check the box where it says Add to Inventory. This will create a product detail card for this recipe so you can count it in your regular inventory. You will be prompted to fill in the Units of Measure conversions and Inventory Unit as well.
- Click More Options to add instructions for your cooks.
Please Note: batch recipes should not have POS Codes attached to them. If you have a POS code for a single portion of the recipe you should create a separate recipe tied to that POS code with 1 PRTN of the batch recipe as an ingredient.

Creating Menu Item Recipes
The three boxes at the top of your screen will suggest items that are not currently tied to a POS code. These suggestions are based on high volume items that are actively selling. We recommend starting here, as it will automatically offer you the relevant POS codes for these items.
To create your menu item recipes, complete the following steps:
- Click the blue + sign next to the suggested POS item
- The item's POS code will populate in the recipe if you select an item from the top. If you sell the same item in different sizes or at different prices we'll show you all of those codes. Just select the one you want to work on and then click the check mark on the top left of the list.
- Name the recipe
- Add ingredients by:
- Typing the first product into Ingredient 1 and hit enter
- Or, click the magnifying glass to search.
- Click Add Another Ingredient to add all the ingredients needed
- Next, you need to set the yield and portion. For recipes that you tie to POS codes, this value should match. Most commonly this will be Yield = 1 PRTN and portion = 1 PRTN
- Finally, click Add Recipe and you'll be able to see the cost breakdown of that menu item.
