Moving Avero Data Extraction ot a New Server
Applies to On-Premise data extractions only. Export and Cloud integrations do not apply. Check your integration type here: *Avero POS Integrations
If you upgrade or change the on-premise server where Avero is installed you can easily migrate your data extraction to the new server. See the steps below.
Preparing for Migration
You'll need the new server to inherit all network and firewall rules to allow HTTPS traffic to Avero's destinations that were put in place for your original installation, you can review those preparation rules here: Pre-Install Checklist - On-Premise Systems
Are your database credentials changing? Is the POS Database Server changing? If so, ensure you have the new database SERVER NAME and SQL Credentials available.
With the credentials in hand, or the original credentials if unchanged, create the ODBC connection from the NEW SERVER to the POS DB SERVER and test that it can connect successfully. See a guide here.
On The New Server
On the new server make sure:
- The firewall and network rules are inherited from the previous server (HTTPS traffic to hfs.averoinc.com must be permitted)
- You have a working ODBC connection to the POS Database Server
- You copy the entire C:\Avero folder from the old server to the new server and name it C:\AveroNEW
- Download, allowlist, and place in the C:\ drive our installer: http://hfs.averoinc.com/public/averoinstall.exe
At Go Live
On the day you wish to make the change:
-
Run the averoinstall.exe - when prompted enter these values:
- POS Code = Infogen41
- Business ID = 57
- Validation Code = 0221
- This will download and register any missing dependencies. When prompted to enter server details, use the enter key to move forward.
- When the installer completes, a new folder for C:\Avero will be present. This is not needed, you can rename or delete it and update the C:\AveroNEW folder back to the name C:\Avero
- Add or update your daily task to ensure data extraction proceeds automatically: Add or Edit a Daily Task to Initiate Extraction
- Now test that you can run and send data.
- Open the Avero DEU and select View Output to open the file explorer to the Output directory
- Run data for any recent date - if ZIP files are generated in the Output directory and then disappear, everything is working.
- Leave the output directory open and right-click on your Avero task in the Task Library and select Run
- Once again, if zip files appear and disappear in the Output directory you are all set.
Potential Errors
Item Sales Returned No Data - normal error for any business that did not have sales on the day in question, such as Banquets.
Could Not Connect to Avero - indicates the network or firewalls are not allowing data to be sent over HTTPS to Avero's destination. Check network and firewall rules to correct.
Creating the ODBC Connection to the Database Server
Follow these steps:
- Locate the SysWOW64 folder (usually C:\Windows\SysWOW64) and open the ODBC Adminstrator (odbcad32)
- Select the System DSN Tab and select Add
- Select SQL Server from the picklist > Finish
- Name it Avero and point to the Database Server > Next
- Select SQL Authentication - do not use Windows authentication - enter the User and Password for the Avero user you set up > Finish
-
A pop-up with the ODBC Data Source Details will appear, click Test Data Source
- Test completed successfully! You should receive this success message, if not verify the database user credentials are correct.
