Managing Labor Reporting through the Labor Setup tool
Available in: Essentials and Professional subscriptions only
To ensure seamless labor management reporting, the labor setup tool is designed to map job classes by departments, as well as remove job classes that should not be considered. To manage your configuration in Avero, you must have the "Labor Setup" special role enabled by your admin.
Avero's Labor tool allows you to proactively manage labor costs, create efficient labor schedules, and streamline your operation to protect your profit. The Labor setup feature is a critical component that helps ensure accurate and meaningful labor reporting.
Labor data is pulled from your POS or Timeclock System, and then subsequently organized in Avero through labor mapping. In addition to timeclock information, Avero has added additional labor groupings - such as grouping job codes into Departments.
Please Note: If you need to update or repair the underlying data (Employee name misspelled, wrong job code applied) you would need to make those adjustments in your timekeeping system.

Map Positions
Categorize employee positions to larger departments - for example, Dishwasher, Prep Cook, and Line Cook being grouped into a 'Back of House' Department. By default, there are 5 departments available (Administrative, Back of House, Front of House, Management, and Other) but you will also have the ability add additional departments if necessary. This grouping allows you to look at labor cost and productivity by department. For example, Back of House labor could be viewed as a % of Revenue or Covers per Labor Hour.
- Select Business
- Select Position
- Click the Department to assign
- Click 'Assign To'
Note: Click the Add button to add another Unit Department
Map Departments
You can map the Departments from each of your businesses to our standard Departments: Administrative, Back of House, Front of House, Management, and Other. This controls how your group-level labor reporting will appear and functions the same way as Map Positions.
Please note: you can't add or customize Departments at the group level.
- Select Business
- Select Unit Department
- Click the Group to assign
- Click 'Assign To'
Hide Tab
All of your employees can be found in the Hide tab, which displays their Name, Employee Number, and Rate (of pay). This function controls who you will see in your labor reports.
To remove an employee, click on the Eye icon next to their name. The eye icon indicates an included employee and an eye icon with a slash indicates a hidden employee.
The Hide function is typically used when there are shared employee logins or salary employees included.
Shifts Tab
Shifts can be configured for the Hourly Labor Report so that you can view labor by shift instead of by time increments.
This setup allows you to add shifts in a 24-hour cycle. To do this:
- Select Business
- Click Add
- Adjust periods accordingly, and make sure the shifts cover all 24 hours in a day.
Now that your labor functions are mapped, take a look at the reports available: Labor Training Resources

Why is my existing labor configuration not replicated in Avero?
When integrating with your POS/Timeclock system, we focus on time punch data rather than configuration settings. As a result, jobs that weren't included on a punch won't show up in our reporting. However, if a job has appeared historically, it will still be reflected in Avero, even if it's no longer configured in the POS/Timeclock.
I received an error message: 'Please select mandatory filter: Job Class'
This error is generated when a user attempts to run a Labor Report (such as Labor Summary Report) but Labor Setup has not yet been completed for this business/outlet. Complete the labor setup and the reports will run as expected.
