Which Micros Simphony System do I have?
Micros/Oracle has a wide range of POS Systems to choose from, and understanding exactly which system and setup you have can be confusing, but it is vital to gather the correct technical information to install Avero and support it moving forward. This article is a guide to help you understand the differences and how to uncover the relevant details.

Micros POS Systems
The long-standing legacy Micros products are not usually installed at new properties anymore, but you may still have these older system types because they can last a long time.
Micros RES 3700 - This is a very common On-Premise system, meaning you have an on-site server that runs your POS. You can easily install Avero on this system in about 10 minutes. Click the link to learn more about this integration.
Micros 9700 - This is an older version of Micros designed for hotel properties mostly, it is no longer placed into new properties and is not supported by Oracle currently. Therefore, Avero does not perform new installations to this system, but may have older customers still running this system.
Micros Simphony Versions
Micros Simphony is the most common Micros system you'll see in the market currently, and there are several versions, which can be the tricky part to understand.
Micros Simphony 1 - This is the original Micros Simphony system, which features an on-premise server and database. This is no longer placed as a new installation in hospitality, but you may still have this sytem. Installation on this system requires access to the POS Server and database access.
Micros Simphony 2 - This is an on-premise version of Micros Simphony that may use either a SQL Database or an Oracle Database. Installation on this system requires access to the POS Server and database access.
Micros Simphony Cloud Hosted - Simphony is available as a cloud system in addition to the previously mention on-premise versions. Simphony Cloud does not store the POS information in an on-site database, but in off-site storage. Installation on this system requires Oracle to enable and send an export containing the POS sales information to Avero, instead of a local software installation.
How can I determine which version and database type I am using?
We recommend connecting with your POS Servicer / Support and requesting the system details for your system including POS Version, Database Type (SQL or Oracle), and current Database Credentials.
If you have a dedicated IT team or technical managers, they may have this information. You can also check the following:
-
Check Task Manager for the TNS Name which is present for an Oracle Database server
-
Check for SQL Developer or SQL Management Studio to verify database type:
- SQL Developer = Oracle database
- SQL Management Studio - SQL database
If you know your POS version (your POS reseller/servicer/support can confirm this) but are unable to determine the database type, reply to your install email and Avero Installs can provide instructions to determine using a batch file they provide that queries your system and returns the database type in most circumstances. Request the CHECKDB file to receive complete instructions.
How can I get Avero installed on my version of Micros?
If you are using Micros 3700, installation is easily performed yourself in about 10 minutes, following the Avero Installation Instructions with the info our Install team provides to you: Business ID and Validation Code.
On-premise Simphony systems are complex systems that require database access in addition to server access. Due to the complexity of these systems, they require an advanced install technician from Avero's Install Team and the appointment calendar is more limited as a result. To ensure that your installation appointment can go smoothly make sure you have all the required information and a knowledgeable contact available for the installer.
Required preparatory needs, you must:
- Know which version of Simphony POS you are using so that we have the correct information to install, contact your reseller or POS Support if you are unsure
- Know whether you are using a SQL Database or an Oracle Database (these have different formats and require different approaches to be able to install)
- Have SQL Plus installed on your machine (contact Oracle for assistance with this)
- Have current database credentials either provided in advance to Avero or entered at the time of installation by an informed technical contact
- Have a technical contact familiar with your database setup available for the installation appointment, this may be an IT person, a corporate resource, a POS Reseller, or yourself
- Have the necessary whitelisting of our components completed prior to scheduling an installation appointment, see those needs listed here: Pre-Install Checklist
Simphony Cloud Hosted system requires you to reach out to Oracle and request they enable the Avero Custom GL Export, and you or Oracle can access the specifications here: Micros Simphony Cloud Setup Instructions
If Oracle has confirmed the export is sending but you don't know your GL Code you can discover it in your EMC:
EMC > Enterprise / Organization level > Enterprise Parameters module > Reporting & Analytics tab > Organization ID
This Organization is your GL Code for the purposes of the Avero Export, it must be a unique value and not a default (Rest) or generic (200) ID.
