Perfect Check
The Perfect Check is specific to your concept and POS category configuration. However, the idea is that there is an ideal for the types of items guests will order while spending time in your restaurant.
For Example: in my Cantina, I want everyone to enjoy a Specialty Cocktail, Appetizer, Entree, and a Dessert. I know that guests who order our best items in each category will want to return, time and time again. Additionally, they will contribute to a higher average check in my business.
In this article, the following topics will be discussed:
Using Service Category for your Perfect Check Initiative
Once you have mastered the Service Category report, you can take this information a step further and work with your entire service team to help them achieve the Perfect Check.
To do this, complete the following steps:
- Run a Service Category Report
- Use the Report Generator to narrow down the Revenue Center, Meal Period and correct Employee Class for your peer set. To learn more about the Report Generator, access this article.
- Use the Category filter to select each Major or Minor category that constitutes the Perfect Check in your establishments.
- Once these categories are selected, you will be able to view Check Average or Item/Cover % achievements by each team member.
Please Note: at the bottom of the report, there is a Total line for your service team. This will show your team's average check per category included in your perfect check.
Improving Perfect Check achievements
- Start with the servers who are furthest from your team average, but have the highest opportunity for improvement. They can likely benefit from additional training in each category, such as working on scripting to improve descriptions, mock service, and dedicated goals such as sell 10 specialty cocktails per shift.
- For servers on the mid to high end of your total average check, but with specific categories of opportunity, give them this report as it will inspire their competitive spirit. Servers know that higher sales result in higher tips. Provide them with one or two focus areas.
- Set team goals, such as improving dessert sales to a specific gross average check. Run a contest for the highest dollar improvement or offer a team reward like a great team meal if everyone achieves their goal!
