If I update my items / menus / categories will this affect past data?
No. Data is loaded daily and is fixed from that point forward. If items or categories change, the previous data will reflect as it was and the new data imported after the change will reflect the new information. For example if Item 1036 is Winter Salad and is changed to Spring Salad on March 20, an item sales report for all of March would show 1036 Winter Salad and 1036 Spring Salad, same item number but reflect the sales of each item on two different lines in the report.
Can I move items between categories?
An item moved into a new category will remain under the original category in the category report. It will appear in the new category under an item sales report. This will contribute to discrepancies when comparing the two reports or when drilling down to item sales from the category report. It is always recommended that when changing an item's category that a new category is created (instead of moved) to create accurate reporting as it can not be updated historically.
Example: We have a salad that was originally under Appetizers. We moved the salad to the Soups/Salads category. When running a category report, any salad sales will appear under Appetizers after the change. When running an item sales report, we will see it under its new category of Soups/Salads.
